This pure gold coin is the 5th bullion release in the Royal Tudor Beasts Collection from The Royal Mint. The collection includes ten ‘Beasts’ statues that line the Moat Bridge at Hampton Court and represent the King’s lineage.

The dragon on the coin serves as a heraldic symbol, denoting power, strength, and authority. Its roots can be traced back to Welsh mythology, when dragons were frequently portrayed as powerful and terrifying monsters. The Tudors, who had Welsh origins, adopted the dragon as a symbol to emphasise their ties to Wales and assert their authority as rulers.

The reverse side of the coin, designed by David Lawrence, depicts the Tudor Dragon, which Henry Tudor (later King Henry VII) used to gather an army against Richard II in preparation for the Battle of Bosworth Field. This design is not only visually pleasing, but it also has additional security features to help prevent counterfeiting.
