The 2025 Australian Kangaroo 1oz Silver Coin features the classic bounding red kangaroo on the reverse, surrounded by stylised rays of bursting sunlight. The words ‘Australian kangaroo’ along with details of the coin’s weight, fineness, and year-date are featured in the outer circle of the design.
The obverse of the coin bears Dan Thorne’s portrait of King Charles III with the coin’s monetary denomination below.
The Perth Mint began minting the Silver Kangaroo bullion coin in 2016. The coin includes an authentication feature on the reverse, in the form of a micro-laser engraved letter within the design which is only detectable under a magnifying glass. This authentication feature is designed to make it significantly more difficult for the coin to be counterfeited, providing extra peace of mind.
The kangaroo is the largest marsupial surviving on earth today. Its distinctive style of movement, hopping on its hind legs whilst using its large muscular tail for balance, means it is one of the only animals which is unable to move backwards easily. A recognisable symbol of Australia, the kangaroo features in the Australian national emblem alongside the emu.
As proud bullion distributors of The Perth Mint, we purchase these coins direct from The Perth Mint in Australia.
